How to Create Your Travel Tech Go Bag

No matter if you are a frequent traveler or someone who travels once in a while, I’m sure you’ve had that moment when you realize you forgot a charger, and you scramble to pay for an over-priced one at the airport.  Since I’m always on the go, I have put together my travel tech essentials go bag.  It’s portable, it’s always ready, and it has everything I need for all my tech devices.

First STEP:  Get a small pouch.  It’s totally up to you, but keep it small, because the whole point of it is to be portable so you can put in your purse or book bag.  Use an old makeup bag, or pencil purse.  Your choice.

Second STEP:  Determine what devices you will take with you on your trek and purchase your travel tech essentials.  I have this bag always ready, which means the ones I use at home are in addition to what I bring with me on my travels.  These tech items are fairly inexpensive, and because you will always use them, in the end, you’ll save money.

Third STEP:  Assemble your travel tech go bag, and grab it on your way out the door.

What Items Do I Use?

I am a big Apple fan, so I have an iPhone, iWatch, and MacBook, but I also have a Samsung phone for work and Microsoft tablet.  Regardless, you can make your own travel tech bag to fit your needs.

Things to Know:

USB chargers are not all created equal.  You have to look at the total volts and amps that the device will output that will provide you the quick charge you want. Inexpensive chargers that you might pick up at the airport will be much more susceptible to breaking because of the cheaper circuit board printing and lower quality connectors, which gives the device a shorter lifespan, lower reliability, and slower charge for your devices.  The tech items I recommend here are reliable and provide the quick charge capabilities for all of my devices.

Recommended Travel Tech Items:

  • Lightning (iPhone) Pocket ChargerIf you travel, you use your phone for everything, to include GPS, which means your battery dies much faster.  The lightning pocket charger is a must-have item.  This quick charge pocket charger holds 5000 mAh, which lets me recharge my phone a few times.  Its built-in lightning cable means no additional cords in my purse.  This device is almost the same size as my iPhone and slightly lighter in weight.  I find myself always needing some juice at random times when I don’t have access to a plug.  You’ll be shocked at how fast your phone will recharge, so you’ll never be afraid you’ll run out of battery life.
  • Car Air Vent Phone Holder

When I travel and pick up my rental, use of my phone as a GPS (via Waze) is a must.  This provides me a hands free way to view my maps in any vehicle.

  • Fast Charge Dual Port Car Charger

When I get into my car, the first thing I do is put my phone into the air vent phone holder, then plug my phone into a charger.  This fast charge capable car charger allows me to power up my personal and work phones rapidly after long flights and treks.  Did you know you shouldn’t use a car USB port or public charging USB station because of malware/spyware threats?  Get this to ensure your phone safety and quick charging capability in any vehicle.  Click here to read an industry report on this threat.

  • iPhone Lightning Fast Charging Cables (Multi Length 4 Pack)

Make sure to get some lightning fast charging cables to ensure your phone gets the fastest charge.  This four pack comes with four varying length durable cables for your iPhone.  I like the 3ft one while traveling in the car and the longer ones for a hotel room.

  • Dual USB Fast Wall Charger, 3.0

This 2 port USB charger provides one quick charge 3.0 charging slot, and one 2.4 charging slot.  What does this mean for you?  The device pushes more electricity to your phone or device in a shorter period of time, giving you quicker, more reliable charges.  This is most important when you have short periods of time to charge your devices, i.e. the airport lounge.

  • 2 in 1 iPhone/iWatch Charger Stand

I like the 2 in 1 charging capability for both my iWatch and iPhone together.  My watch only needs to be charged once a day, so I don’t have to worry about charging it nearly as much as I do my phone. I use this on my nighttime stand.

Other recommended item:

  • Universal 110/240v Extension Cord, Power Strip and 4 USB ports
Although this isn’t normally part of my small travel tech bag, I do bring this along with me during work trips when I know access to power will be at a premium.  This gives me a 4ft extension cord, two universal ports, and 4 USB plug-ins, which means I can charge every computer, phone, tablet I have with ease.  Since this device is 110/240v, I can use it when traveling abroad with a simple adapter.  It also accepts all international plugs.
